Description
My introduction to the fantasy genre was Fritz Lieber's adventures of Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser. These stories were the seedy antithesis of Tolkien, and--for me--far more enjoyable. Here is a character study of the northern barbarian, Fafhrd. Pencil painted using Photoshop. A little more painterly, this one.

There are a few spots that could be improved: the chain, for instance, is not tied very well into the image and seems rather separate from the figure, undermining the volume definition; the beard is almost as if it is painted on the skin, not grown - it should have more texture.

only thing I can really comment on is that the perspective of the face changes from the top to the bottom. it seems like the jawline is pointing in a different direction than the eyes and nose.
